Who we are
Seigokan Brasil is the Brazilian organization of Seigokan, the Goju-ryu Karate-Do school founded by Seigo Tada in Kyoto in 1945. It brings together the dojos and senseis who teach Seigokan Goju-ryu in the country, with the same curriculum, the same principles and the same technical reference: the school's headquarters, the Sōhonbu, in Himeji, Japan.1
Board
Seigokan Brasil is led by Shihan Leonardo Carion, National Director, based in Rio de Janeiro, and Sensei Joetsu Narita, Vice-Director, based in Curitiba. In Japan, Seigokan is led by Seigo Tada III (三代目 多田正剛), sōke and president of the organization.2 Meet the senseis and the lineage linking them to the founder.
What we do
- We organize the network of dojos teaching Seigokan Goju-ryu in Brazil and keep the directory of affiliated dojos up to date.
- We look after technical training: the kata curriculum, the fundamentals and consistent teaching across dojos.
- We hold seminars, courses and gradings, published in the events calendar.
- We preserve the connection with Japan: the technical and institutional reference for Seigokan Brasil is the school's headquarters in Himeji.
- We record and share the history of Seigokan and its founder, with sources, in Portuguese, Spanish, English and Japanese.
Principles
Seigokan Brasil follows the principles Seigo Tada left in the Dojo-kun: 誠実・謙虚・不屈, sincerity, humility and perseverance.1 In practice this means teaching karate as a path of personal development, not just as a sport or conditioning; respecting the school's lineage and technical hierarchy; and keeping the door open to anyone who wants to learn seriously.
The brand
The Seigokan Brasil name and logo, the fist between laurels with the characters 正剛館, are a registered trademark. Use by affiliated dojos follows the brand guidelines.
